Nudie Jeans Co doesn’t just offer jeans. With a wear and tear-way of thinking, reuse and repair program Nudie Jeans Co provides and maintains a tradition true to the fabric’s tradition and characteristics.
Founded in Gothenburg in 2001, the Swedish denim company has been recognized for their work with sustainability, both environmental and social. With a denim selection made from 100% organic cotton and transparent production, Nudie Jeans Co is in the fore edge and has taken a prominent role in the industry’s work for a more sustainable existence.
Get the balance right
The most environmentally friendly would be if we all went naked, cultivated our own food, and asked our gut for advice instead of a Silicon Valley-based oracle. Our environmental policy doesn’t reach that far. We still make jeans. It’s our passion. But we made the choice to manufacture our product in a fair and ethical way. An opportunity every company is given, but too few take.
Our jeans are not designed to be used a few times and then thrown away. We cherish the well-worn and mended. Jeans that become a part of ourselves when worn a long time – a second skin. A pair of dry denim jeans is the materialized version of our values: No extra treatment or washes. Made with 100% organic cotton.
Add the concept of wear and break-in (six months of daily use without laundering) and our promise of free repairs. Combine it with used denim going back into the loop as second-hand jeans or raw material for new products. All this equals a smarter way to consume, and also an environmentally sustainable product.
We work only with suppliers that share our values. Together with Fair Wear Foundation we ensure safe and ethical working conditions across the whole line of production. It’s our way to get as close to ”just the right amount” as possible. A little more ”lagom”.
A way to get the balance right.

or This is what makes Nudie Jeans stand out
Sustainable & responsible materials 94% of all the fibers used in our garments is cotton and we are proud to say that we only work with Organic, Fairtrade or Recycled cotton, as the largest environmental impact of our products is from growing the raw material. The first goal was reached in 2012 when all our denim was made in organic cotton and the journey has continued since. In 2017, we reached the same goal for the rest of our product groups.

Organic Since clean dry denim fabric is one of the cornerstones of Nudie Jeans, why would we use anything but clean cotton to produce it? In fact, all our cotton garments originate from certified organic farming.

Recycled materials Using recycled cotton is a great way to decrease our environmental impact, as cotton is a resource intensive crop to grow. We are using recycled cotton in our Rebirth collection, where the denim was made with 20% recycled cotton, originating from our own collected post-consumer Nudie Jeans. We have also released a number of T-shirts made with post-consumer recycled cotton from externally collected garments.

Upcycling We are using old Nudie Jeans brought in by customers, in different ways. The majority becomes patches used in the repair service, but we are also using the fabric from old Nudie jeans to make new products, such as the bucket hats for example. We are also selling turned in jeans as preloved Re-use jeans in our Repair Shops.
Read more Sustainable & responsible production We do not envision a trade-off between profit and people, or between manufacturing and environmental responsibility. Together with the garment factories with which we collaborate, we bear the responsibility of providing a safe, fair and ethical working environment for everyone involved in the manufacturing of our garments. Check out our transparent production guide for more details.
Read more Transparent standards & communication At Nudie Jeans we strive to be as transparent as possible on how our products are made. We were early on with the launch of our Production guide in 2013 and in 2020 we presented product level transparency. An important part of being a sustainable brand is having increased transparency internally and for customers and the wider public.

UN Sustainable Development Goals in Focus
10 – Reduced Inequalities Since 2013, we have been paying our share of living wages for our products at selected Indian suppliers, and during the last years just over 2450 workers have received an additional amount from Nudie Jeans, as a step toward increasing wages at selected suppliers. For part of the Indian supply chain, we pay our share of living wages to employees from the raw material stage throughout the supply chain, to the final garment.

However, together with the garment factories with which we collaborate, we bear the responsibility of providing a safe, fair and ethical working environment for everyone involved in the manufacturing of our garments.

Our climate work is a journey; we are gradually developing our strategy and actions as our knowledge and possibilities around our climate initiatives expand. We have mapped our emissions for two consecutive years, and we have offset our business’ full emissions for both these years.

We measure, monitor, and actively reduce our emissions We do not believe nice words will do the trick for the climate; we believe in working toward change. Therefore, we do not talk about being climate neutral or climate positive through carbon offsetting. We focus on creating roadmaps to real change. This is challenging, but it is the only way forward. Meanwhile, we are working toward our reduction targets, we are investing in carbon offsetting to cover emissions from our business in all three scopes. Others call it climate neutral; we see this as the minimum amount necessary to even begin to claim that we take responsibility for the climate impact of our business.
